Dr Giesecke has been one of the most fervent opponents of imposing heavy restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus, arguing in the medical journal The Lancet in May that as most people will Giesecke’s also the one consistently downplaying the pandemic, famously stating that it’s no worse than a common cold. But here he is again, in the Lancet of all places. One wonders… well, you read it yourself. Something is very wrong with Sweden. That was one of the more extraordinary interviews we have done here at UnHerd.Professor Johan Giesecke, one of the world’s most senior epidemiologists, advis Flockimmunitet.
COVID-19—a very visible pandemic. Johan Giesecke 1 referred to the COVID-19 pandemic as an invisible pandemic, estimating that 25% of the Stockholm population was infected by the end of April, 2020, of which 98–99% are unaware of being infected. During April and May, 2020, Giesecke became somewhat of a celebrity in the UK and elsewhere, giving interviews that promoted these arguments. Giesecke's letter specifically stated that PCR tests and assumptions had shown that 20–25% of Stockholm was infected already, that serology tests were already supporting this conclusion, and that 98–99% of people infected did not know it.

Writing in The Lancet in May, Giesecke said he believes that "everyone will be exposed" to the virus at some point and that "most people will become infected"—but many will have weak or mild PROF GIESECKE FROM SWEDEN LANCES IT IN THE LANCET Prof Johan Giesecke is the former Swedish state Epidemiologist and an adviser to the WHO.
